Fayette County Fire and Emergency Services (FES) firefighters on Jan. 15 freed a man who had been trapped in his vehicle with a broken leg after driving off Ga. Highway 279 in north Fayette and landing in a stand of trees.
FES representative Doug Morris said the man at the time of the accident was on the way home from a club during the early morning hours of Jan. 15 and driving on Hwy. 279 near Kenwood Road.
The driver did not make the curve and left the roadway, rolling the vehicle and crashing into a stand of trees, Morris said.
Sheriff Barry Babb said it was not known how long the driver was in the vehicle before being spotted and rescue personnel alerted.
Morris said firefighters used the “jaws of life” and cutters to cut off the roof of the vehicle to get to the driver who had sustained a fractured leg.
The driver was transported to Grady Hospital.
Babb said an open container of alcohol was found in the vehicle.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing, Babb said.
