Senoia officials are in discussions with Coweta County to install an 800 MHz radio tower on city-owned property near Howard Road. If approved, the
tower would provide enhanced communications capabilities between local government agencies.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) relating to the proposal was adopted by the Coweta County Commission last week. The proposal is being discussed by the city and county, with the City Council expected to make a decision on the issue sometime soon, said Senoia City Administrator Richard Ferry.

The MOU calls for the county to lease a 2.4-acre tract on city-owned property near the ballfields off Howard Road. Under the proposed agreement, the city would essentially grant an easement to the property and the county would lease it for 50 years. Third party users could potentially lease space on the tower, according to the MOU.

Ferry on Wednesday said the measure is part of a U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security mandate that all public services be put on an 800 MHZ frequency so that related agencies can more effectively communicate.

Funding for the project comes from the voter-approved county Fire Bond, Ferry said.
