As part of the Tenth Anniversary Season, Griffin Choral Arts has announced the formation of the Griffin Choral Arts Children’s Chorus. This new ensemble endeavors to train children in the choral arts, provide them with exposure to excellent repertoire, present concert performances that demonstrate their accomplishments and motivation, thus leading them to a lifetime enjoyment of choral singing.
The Children’s Chorus is composed of both boys and girls in grades 3-6, who successfully completed an audition. The 90-minute rehearsals are highly active and infused with lots of movement, careful vocal instruction, and fun musical exercises.
The GCA Children’s Chorus will make its performance debut Sunday, Dec. 4, as special guests for the Griffin Choral Arts Christmas Concert entitled “Cheers” (3 p.m. at Griffin First United Methodist Church, 1401 Maple Drive). The children will sing several pieces on their own, and will also join the adult chorus for a few selections, including the traditional concert closer “Peace, Peace.”
Griffin Choral Arts, under the direction of Dr. Stephen J. Mulder, is an auditioned, regional community chorus. Griffin Choral Arts aspires to enhance the cultural life of Griffin and surrounding communities by presenting a variety of choral music programs at the highest artistic level. The mission of Griffin Choral Arts is to bring “the best choral music to the community.”
