The completion of the historic 1904 Coweta County Courthouse gets closer each month. Several small projects leading to the October opening of the historic structure were approved July 20 by the Coweta County Commission.

Commissioners unanimously approved a bid of $8,400 by Greater Atlanta Memorials for the cleaning and rehabilitation of monuments and historical signage on the property.

The commission on June 15 established a $15,000 fund for the work. The funds will be repaid to the county by the Courthouse Committee through subsequent fundraising efforts.

Also pertaining to the courthouse project, commissioners July 20 approved the purchase of 56 wood chairs for use in the jury room, jury box, grand jury room and judge’s conference room. The $24,473 low bid was awarded to Cook Office Equipment.

Work on the $7.5 million Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax-funded (SPLOST) project was slated to take 12-18 months and is expected to be completed in October.
