Wildlife assessment at Lake Peachtree

Following recent reports of alligator sightings in Lake Peachtree, the city had a wildlife expert assess the lake week.

According to a city statement he found no “slides” and no reflected eyes during his time on the lake (these are indicators of an alligator in residence), but did find an over-abundance of Canada geese (due to overfeeding) and beavers – both classified as “nuisance wildlife” in Georgia that would be reduced if an alligator was in residence.

As a result, Peachtree City will be undertaking a trapping and removal program for both.

Residents are reminded to never feed wildlife like ducks and geese because it can cause a variety of problems and is actually be harmful to the animals.
