Some of the finishing touches are being made to the historic 1904 Coweta County Courthouse, expected to open in October. County commissioners last week approved change orders designed to bring the project closer to completion.

Commissioners gave unanimous approval to change orders totaling $57,669 for work such as basement storm drain pumps, subfloor repairs and framing, exterior metal ceiling repairs, attic window frame repairs, storm sewer inlets and other items.

Commissioners also approved an $8,906 work order to purchase kitchen appliances and fixtures. The low bidder for the equipment will supply items such as a refrigerator, ice maker dispenser, work tables, sinks and faucets. The small kitchen will be located on the third floor of the courthouse.

Work on the $7.5 million Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax-funded (SPLOST) project was slated to take 12-18 months and is expected to be completed in October.
