Downtown Fayetteville will be active this weekend (May 14-15) with food and art events.

The first Chalk Art Festival, hosted by Fayette County, will bring artists of all ages to create their best chalk artwork on Jack Dettmering Way from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Contact FCPAC@fayettecountyga.gov for more info.

Sunday, the 15th annual Taste of Fayette features local restaurants selling samples of their finest offerings from noon until 4 p.m.  “Tastes” range from 50 to $3 each and will come from a variety of vendors including Atlanta Bread, Broadway Diner, City Café and Bakery, Khalifa (Indian), Moe’s Southwest Grill, Olde Courthouse Tavern, Partners II Pizza, Petite Pies, Rosa’s Home Cooking, Royal Stix Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi, Star of India, Taste of Gluten Free, TCBY, Twisted Taco, and Which Wich.

Beer and wine will also be available at the Lane Brown Gazebo with a selection of brews to enjoy with the food samplings of the day.  All food/drinks are sold on a token system only, so plan to convert cash or credit card to tokens at two separate token tents.

While munching on the various tastes, visitors can also stroll through the non-food section showcasing a variety of other local businesses. At the Kids Corner, children can visit the bouncy house and slide at no charge; face painting, balloon making, sand art, cotton candy and bungee jumping will require tokens.

The fountain stage will be alive all day long with great musical performances from local rockers CTW, as well as other local entertainers throughout the day.  Awards will be given at 2:30 p.m. for the “Finest Taste,” “Finest Treat” and “Most Amazing Booth.”

Also, new this year near the stage area, a children’s art tent will feature artwork from each of the county’s schools. At the centerpiece is a large mural for all children to put their own artistic touches. In an effort to support the many young artists in Fayette County, Fayetteville Main Street is giving a senior student in each high school the opportunity to apply for an art scholarship.  The students have already submitted a portfolio of their work and the scholarship recipients are chosen from those.  Each applicant is a college-bound art major.  The winners will be announced during the awards ceremony at 2:30 p.m.

The Taste of Fayette is presented by Fayetteville Main Street. Both the Taste of Fayette and the Chalk Art Festival are held around the downtown Fayetteville square within easy walking distance of each other.
