Multiple students from Fayette County who were nominated by U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson to attend military service academies have received appointments.
Isakson held a reception April 17 in Atlanta for his 32 nominees from across the state who received appointments.
“These students are among the very best our state has to offer, and they will join the ranks of other superb students from Georgia who have made us so proud in our U.S. armed forces,” said Isakson.
Pictured above are Carissa Buonerba of Tyrone, a student at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic High School, and Wayne Witherow of Peachtree City, a student at McIntosh High School. Both were accepted to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
Among those who were unable to attend but received and accepted appointments:
Taka Lendon of Peachtree City, U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
Christine Perez of Fayetteville, U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
Myles Threatt of Peachtree City, U.S. Naval Academy.
Members of Congress are tasked with nominating students to attend our nation’s military academies annually. Those nominees who are accepted into the academies are awarded full four-year scholarships that include tuition, books, room and board, medical and dental care.
