Fayetteville Main Street has announced multiple events taking place downtown Saturday, Oct. 24, with entertainment throughout the day.

At the Gazebo, residents can shop more than 80 vendors at an extended Market Day that runs from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The Great Pumpkin Festival and Trick or Treat on Main Street around the square will be the place for families to enjoy hay rides, train rides, face painting, games and sightseeing of the hundreds of decorated pumpkins that will be on display at the Old Courthouse lawn throughout the week leading up to Halloween.

Kids will be able to visit the vendor booths and downtown businesses for trick-or-treating from 3:30-4 p.m. The costume contest will begin at 4 p.m. for children ages 13 and under, with prizes awarded in different age groups.

A new event this year, the Night Walk event starts at 6 p.m. at the fountain area. Adults will participate in their own costume contest, sponsored by Main Street and the City of Fayetteville.  Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place. Then the one-mile Night Walk will begin around downtown Fayetteville with costumed ghouls taking in the sites of the city.  Free hot chocolate and smores will be available at the conclusion of the Night Walk.

Also on the old Courthouse lawn from noon-3 p.m. that same day, the annual ChiliFest will showcase many local homemade chili and salsa samples available for $1 each. Twisted Taco will also have a beer garden on the event grounds. All proceeds from this event go to support the Shriners Hospital for Children.
