Donald William Peterson, 80, of Tyrone, Ga. passed on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at Doctor’s Hospice in Fayetteville, Ga.
He was born April17, 1935 to Harold William Peterson and Elsie Marie Peterson (Beckstrom) in Chicago, Ill. He graduated from Austin High School, Chicago and attended University of Illinois.
Donald was an exceptional mason contractor, worked in the steel industry and managed a pet store. A member of MG Car Club, he raced semi-pro sports cars on road courses, which he accomplished multiple trophies. He was an avid NASCAR fan, loved traveling, fishing and an experienced scuba diver. He enjoyed skiing, climbed mountains and was a diehard Chicago sports fan. He was very compassionate for all animals and botanical, along with a deep interest in historical events.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Janice Peterson, Tyrone, Ga.; son, David Alan Peterson (lla), grandchildren, Daila Seguban Peterson and Dean Alan Peterson. He had a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. He was proceeded in death by both parents and brother, Richard Peterson.
A private viewing was held at Memorial Gardens Cemetery/Neptune Society on Monday, October 12, 2015.
