The 39th Founders Day Festival in Tyrone is scheduled for Sept. 12-19 with a week full of activities for all ages.

It will kick off with the first-ever Amateur BBQ Cook-Off Contest Sept. 12 from 3-8 p.m. at Shamrock Park sponsored by Complete Hardware in Tyrone.  The day is packed with fun filled activities such as the West Fayette Barbell Strongman Contest, a community yard sale, A Denim & Diamonds pageant, Irish dancing and fishing rodeo. The Mooving Café is sponsoring the pie eating contests and other games. Our Platinum Sponsor, The Bounce House in Newnan will be providing mechanical rides and inflatables for all ages to enjoy.

Music lovers can bring their blankets and chairs to Shamrock Park Monday, Sept. 14, to listen to Jazz in the Park with the Sandy Creek Jazz Band. The next night at 6:30 p.m. is One Worship, with local churches gathering on the Great Lawn at Shamrock Park to celebrate and worship together.

The Carnival will open up Thursday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m. with a special “Buy One, Get One Free” unlimited ride band for $20. The full festival atmosphere opens Friday, Sept. 18, at 5 p.m. with arts & crafts, retail and kid-friendly vendors to delicious festival foods. Handmade jewelry and unique fashion accessories will be sold throughout the festival weekend. The evening gets pumped up with an Ice Cream Contest, Pro-Wrestling matches and music by Jason Lee & the Cyclones.

Rise, shine and register Saturday, Sept. 19, at 6:30 a.m. for the Rotary Club of Fayette Daybreak, Founders Day & Paws for a Purpose 5K Fun Run and 1K Walk along with the PAWS event at Shamrock Park. Watch and follow the parade at 11 a.m. through the heart of Tyrone. The fun will continue from noon to 11 p.m. with carnival rides, vendors, hot dog eating contest and varying entertainment acts throughout the day at Handley Park. There is more music in the afternoon and into the night, with a fireworks display 9 p.m. In case of rain Friday or Saturday a makeup day has been scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 20.

Gold and Silver sponsors include SouthCrest Bank, Shirts Atlanta, Nickell Rental, Mallett Consulting and Zen Spa.

Pre-sale tickets for arm bands are $35 for 2 days of unlimited rides and free gate entry are sold at Tyrone Recreation, 145 Commerce Drive and at other Founders Day events until Sept. 15.

Prices will go up to $25 at gate per day. $1 entry fee.
