For the last week, kids and children have been lining up outside a colorful trailer on Senoia’s Main Street for a taste of summer…a New-Orleans inspired Sno Ball that features shaved ice and different flavors.
But Monday night, the City Council decided to enact a moratorium against any retail trailers until Aug.18 when the city could draft an ordinance to correct the situation.
“It was an oversight on our part. We did not anticipate retail trailers,” said City Manager Richard Ferry.
Ferry was also quick to make a distinction between the current food truck craze and the Sno Ball trailer.
“With a truck, you can drive it out every night. This is a semi-permanent structure,” he said.
Ferry said the owner would be required to install a concrete pad and provide handicapped access.
At prestige, the Sno Ball trailer was still anchored down, but it is not known how much longer it will be allowed to operate.
In other business, the City Council approved a plan to close Barnes Street in August to allow construction of a new development by Scott Tigchelaar.
Tigchelaar is building two buildings on Main Street that will house additional retail and oft apartments. The development will lead back to another retail development on Barnes Street.
“We expect to get this going in mid-August and possibly keeping the street closed for four months,” he said.
He added he expected the timeline for finishing the project at eight months.
The City Council approved closing the street unanimously. The council also agreed to let the Pedal for Pets bike ride pedal through the city July 11. Event organizers say as many as 500 riders could descend on the city for the event
