Peachtree City Community Services Division/Public Services Division Director Jon Rorie has been named to serve as interim city manager beginning June 12. Outgoing City Manager Jim Pennington is set to retire in mid-June.
The May 21 announcement came after the Peachtree City Council returned from executive session. The motion to appoint Rorie came with a unanimous vote.
City Manager Jim Pennington after the meeting said the City Council will put out a request for quotes to a number of headhunting firms.
“The council will determine if they go that way,” Pennington said of the process.
Rorie in supervising the Community Services Division is responsible for departments of city government that include planning and zoning, the library, recreation and special events and the building department.
His supervision of the Public Services Division includes responsibility for buildings and grounds, engineering, stormwater, streets and cart paths and the city’s vehicle fleet.
Rorie has worked with the city since December 2011. Prior to that time he served as fire chief in Carolina Beach, N.C. and has a total of 21 years in fire services positions.
