Inman Elementary, what has happened to the rest of the 2014-15 yearbook? There has been a terrible mistake that must be fixed right away. Every club and organization along with the corresponding group photo has been left out of the yearbook.
Initially taking the high-road I thought, “I am sure this must have been some error on the part of the publisher. Or maybe, part of the mock-up fell out on the floor before it went to publishing.” But this does not seem to be the case of the incomplete yearbook. I sent an email more than a week ago asking what happened and received no response.
In past yearbooks, the photos recognizing the clubs and organizations have only taken up two pages. So this certainly cannot be a money or space issue.
Inman, How could you leave out recognition for our Art Club, our Safety Patrol, our Running Club, our Science Olympiad team, our Math Bowl Team, the Robotics Team, our ETV TEAM, our Outstanding Poetry Recitation Winners — one who even went to the state level to compete?
How could you just toss aside our Reading Invitational Team or our Competition Chess Team, also with many winners. How could you blatantly omit our Student Council? Did these clubs suddenly lose club merit?
More importantly, why were the parents and caregivers NOT alerted to this travesty before it went to print?
Yes, we the parents look forward to the yearbook too! We saw many faces of disappointment from our children (your students) when they received their yearbooks, and searched for their clubs so they could show us the photos.
For shame, for shame. We the parents who donate a lot of time, a lot of money along with many early-morning, late night, and all weekend study sessions with our students are completely and utterly let down by those we trusted.
Why were the extra curricular clubs and organizations, those things that help kids build personal responsibilities, identities, new skills, confidence, and new paths to career ideas so brazenly omitted from such an important publication to the students of Inman Elementary? To be a part of these clubs and organizations students practice and study for hours outside of their regular academic requirements.
There is absolutely no excuse for this egregious and appalling omission. The annual (yearbook) means so much to the students (and, yes, to the parents) especially those who are moving on to middle school and for some who are moving out of state.
This book is a testament to hard work, sweat, tears, persistence, as well as overcoming personal and academic challenges that our students have chosen to put themselves through. This book is a last glimpse of accomplishments, victories, and of course, valuable friendships and memories.
I would have gladly paid extra out of my own pocket to see that these wonderful students got the recognition they deserved and shown them how much they meant to us all.
The right thing to do to is for the school to provide a 2-3 page insert recognizing Inman’s clubs and organizations along with a photo of the students in those groups before the end of school.
