A Sandy Creek High School SkillsUSA student is the winner of a national t-shirt contest.

Helen Smith, a second year graphics communication pathway student and treasurer of the Sandy Creek SkillsUSA chapter, is the t-shirt design winner of the National Conference Pin and T-shirt Design Competition.

Her design was chosen from more than 500 entries.

Smith’s winning design will be featured on the official SkillsUSA National Conference t-shirt that participants will receive at the event, which is being held in its new host city, Louisville, Kentucky, in June. She also has been awarded an all-expenses paid trip to attend the conference, and will be recognized on stage during opening ceremonies.

Approximately 16,000 people are expected to attend.

The Sandy Creek SkillsUSA chapter is currently the fourth largest in the state. Jeffrey Dykes, graphic communications teacher, and Matt Turner, automotive technology teacher, are chapter co-sponsors.

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. The organization improves the quality of America’s skilled workforce through a structured program of citizenship, leadership, employability, technical, and professional skills training.
