Spring Hill Buzzing Over Bee-Bots

Spring Hill Elementary students became mini-programmers with the help of Bee-Bots.

Computer science teacher Danielle Lavallo and tech parapro Regina Jarvis worked with kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students, teaching them foundational coding with Bee-Bots programmable floor robots. Students practiced navigating grids, exploring directions, and even making their robots dance.

Through the hands-on project, they discovered that robots need human instructions to work. Working in pairs, they took turns as the Programmer (button pusher) or the Tracker (path mapper), learning to collaborate, communicate, create, and code together.

Lavallo loved seeing the students locked in on learning.

“It was the perfect, creative introduction to teamwork and our upcoming CodeHS lessons, where they will program digital sprites,” she said. “It was so much fun to see what ideas each group came up with!”
