Providence United Methodist Church will offer a “Parenting is Heart Work” seminar Saturday, June 12, from 8:45 a.m.-2:30 p.m. The seminar is open to the community and emphasizes helping parents solve the real problems they are facing. A children’s program is offered at the same time, so that the whole family can attend.

“Too many parenting seminars give vague, general principles that we all know like, ‘be consistent,’ ‘follow through on what you say,’ or ‘don’t be so angry with your kids.’ We’re going to help parents know how to do those things in very practical ways,” says Providence’s senior pastor, Warren Huddleston.

Each session begins with a video segment entitled, “Say Goodbye to Whining, Complaining, and Bad Attitudes in You and Your Kids.” This series is produced by the National Center for Biblical Parenting, out of Lawrenceville, N.J., and features the team teaching by Dr. Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller, R.N., B.S.N.

At the same time, a complete children’s program is provided for children ages 3-12.

“This isn’t just babysitting,” says Kathi Sewak, Providence’s children’s minister. “We’re teaching the children material that complements what adults are learning at the same time. Crafts, activities, stories, and games teach children how they can get along in family life more effectively. Older children are encouraged to sit in with the adults and will have their own break-out session.”

The seminar cost is $20 per person, which includes lunch and a workbook. Seating is limited, so early registration is suggested. Go to www.provumc.com and click on the link or call the church office.

Providence is at 592 Bernhard Rd., Fayetteville, in southern Fayette County between Redwine Road and Ga. Highway 85.
