The Quilters Guild of the Southern Crescent will hold its monthly meetings on Thursday, August 13th at 7 p.m. and Friday, August 14th, at 1:30 p.m. in the Evergreen Church in Peachtree City.  All persons interested in quilting are invited to attend the presentation and fellowship with other quilters.

Tammy Silvers (tamarinis.com), nationally known fabric and quilt designer, will give a multi-media presentation on the making of batik fabric.  Batiks have been used in clothing for centuries and continue to be a mainstay of traditional and modern quilting.  Silvers will explain how this ancient, hand-made fabric is designed and manufactured today.

In addition to learning more about quilts and quilting, the Guild’s 80 members focus on making quilts for local residents in need.  These include children and youth (Bloom Closet and Christian City), new mothers and babies (Pregnancy Resource Center and Piedmont NICUs), and service dogs (Tails of Hope).

Guild President Karen Shelnutt explained, “Our members hail from Fayette and Coweta counties, as well as nearby communities.  We try to bring the beauty and comfort of quilts to folks in these areas”.

Evergreen Church is located at 400 Windgate Rd, Peachtree City.  Doors open 30 minutes before the meetings for “social hour”.  Admission is free.
