Fayette Senior Services, Inc. (FSS), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is excited to kick off its annual Treats, Toys & Tailwags donation drive beginning July 1st to benefit the pets of local seniors served through its AniMeals program.

Community members are invited to donate new cat and dog supplies through July 24th to help ensure these beloved companions receive the care, comfort, and enrichment they deserve. The Treats, Toys & Tailwags drive collects much-needed pet items including treats, toys, collars, leashes, food and water bowls, grooming supplies, shampoos, dental care products, and other pet essentials.

Donations directly benefit the dogs and cats of seniors enrolled in Fayette Senior Services’ AniMeals program, which helps homebound older adults care for the pets that provide them with companionship, comfort, and unconditional love.

“Pets play such an important role in the lives of the seniors we serve,” said Stevie Coachman, Meals on Wheels and AniMeals Coordinator at Fayette Senior Services. “Through the generosity of our community, we can help ease the financial burden of pet ownership and ensure these cherished companions continue to bring joy and comfort to their owners. Every donation truly makes a wag of difference.”

Last year’s Treats, Toys & Tailwags drive provided hundreds of dollars’ worth of pet supplies to AniMeals participants, bringing smiles to both seniors and their furry family members. Fayette Senior Services hopes to build on that success this year with even greater community support.

Donations of new, unopened pet supplies may be dropped off at Fayette Senior Services’ Life Enrichment Center, located at 4 Center Drive in Fayetteville, between July 1st and July 24th. Financial donations designated for the AniMeals program are also welcome!

Since 2009, Fayette Senior Services has been collecting and delivering donations of pet food for Meals On Wheels (MOW) recipient’s animals on a monthly basis. They accept general donations of any dry or wet dog and cat food in bags under 16 lbs in addition to treats and toys as well. Some Meals On Wheels clients who take advantage of this incredible program do have animals that have a specific diet need and require certain foods. If interested in donating for these, please reach out to Stevie Coachman at 770-461-0813 or [email protected] to find out about those specifics.

If you’re interested in making a monetary donation towards the program instead of donating pet food, please call, stop in at either location or mail a check made out to Fayette Senior Services (memo line: Ani-Meals Donation) to 4 Center Drive Fayetteville, GA 30214. Donations can be dropped off at the front desk at either Fayette Senior Services’ location including Peachtree City location (203 McIntosh Trail) or Fayetteville location (4 Center Drive) and are greatly appreciated!

Many of these MOW recipients find it challenging to provide food for their pets when they are not able to leave their homes. To many homebound seniors, having a pet is a source of companionship and comfort.

One AniMeals client shared, “Our pets are our family! They keep me company and bring so much joy and love into my life that I can never show them my appreciation enough. Being able to take advantage of AniMeals to help me care for my dog makes all the difference in my being able to keep my best buddy around!”

The AniMeals program is designed to give MOW clients a little help with the cost and obtaining of pet food so that it isn’t an added burden to maintain the important bond between pet owner and pet. Many years ago, before the birth of this unique program, Fayette Senior Services found that many of these homebound seniors were giving up their own meals so their pets can eat as well.

For any of us with a pet in our lives, we know they are more than just an animal, they are our family and play an important role as our companions. Fayette Senior Services’ AniMeals program has allowed many in our community to continue to care for their animals by providing them with much-needed pet food they wouldn’t otherwise be able get. This program makes a difference not only in the quality of life for the animals, but also for the homebound seniors who love and care for them!

For over four decades, FSS has been making a meaningful difference in the social, emotional, and physical well-being of adults age 50 and better in our community. FSS provides a variety of essential services to the community, including Meals on Wheels, Transportation, Care Management, In-Home Personal Care and Home Repair. FSS’ Life Enrichment center offers a range of social, leisure and fitness activities in both Fayetteville and Peachtree City and also hosts the award-winning Ultimate Café.
