A trio of Rising Starr Middle students won in the 2026 US Children’s Map Competition.

Students in Beth Ann Webb’s world geography class participated in the art contest, with three winning in the age 9-12 category. Quinn Stravelakis won 1st place for “Pangea,” Jessy Kim placed 2nd for “The World,” and  Zaynah Kapadia placed 3rd for “Maps Every Single Day.”

The annual competition celebrates the creativity, imagination, and geographic curiosity of young mapmakers across the United States. This year’s theme was “Maps in Everyday Life.”

All submitted entries were exhibited at the Association of American Geographers Annual Conference in San Francisco. Winning entries are eligible for the international Barbara Petchenik Children’s World Map Drawing Competition.
