Bethany United Methodist Church will celebrate its Homecoming Sunday, Sept. 21, with a service at 10:45 a.m. and a covered dish dinner at noon. Pastor Cole Altizer will preach the sermon.

Bethany, one of the older churches in Fayette County, was established about 1856 in the old Fife Community in north Fayette County. The present building was dedicated May 20, 1900. Many early settlers rest in the cemetery across the street from the church, presently on Rivers Road in north Fayette County..

Much is written about Bethany in The History of Fayette County, Georgia, 1821-1871, edited and compiled by Carolyn Cary and published by the Fayette County Historical Society.
