After coming up one match short a year ago, the Starr’s Mill Lady Panthers took home the AAAAA state tennis championship Saturday by defeating Cambridge 3-1 in the finals at the Clayton County Tennis Center in Jonesboro.
The Lady Panthers defeated Cambridge in last year’s state semifinals before losing 3-2 to Lakeside-Evans in the championship. They avenged that loss by beating Lakeside-Evans in the quarterfinals a week ago.
Starr’s Mill won all three singles matches behind Erin Egoroff, Rachael Williams and Caroline Kelly. The team lost its first doubles match, and the second doubles match was suspended since the team had clinched the title.
