Avery (A.O.) Bailey age 89 of Locust Grove, Ga. passed away on March 23, 2014. He was a loving and generous husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
A.O. was a proud World War II veteran who served his country in the Air Force. He was based in London and flew 25 raids over enemy lines in the B-17 as a flight engineer/gunner. After the war, he worked in the aviation field as a pilot and mechanic for Eastern and Piedmont Airlines. A.O. retired from Airlift International.
He was a member of Locust Grove First Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jean Bailey of Locust Grove; daughter and son in law, Loretta and Ronald White of Newnan; son and daughter in law, Dennis and Diane Bailey of Ellijay; daughter and son in law, Lois and Darrell Woodward of Fayetteville; 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Hoop of Ohio and Wilma Lewallen of Fla.; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Jean Bailey of Ky. Funeral Services for Mr. Bailey will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Locust Grove First Baptist Church.
Interment will be in Camp Memorial Park Cemetery in Fayetteville.
