It will be a major inconvenience for many users of the golf cart path system in Peachtree City, but the path bridge spanning Lake Peachtree will close temporarily beginning March 12.
The closure is necessary so a contractor can remove the handrails along the bridge and replace them with brand new ones. It will take an estimated 30 days to complete the project, and the city will post maps and signs showing alternate routes, officials said.
The bridge will be re-opened for one day during that time frame to accommodate the Breast Cancer walk on March 29, officials said.
The $56,000 project was approved by council Feb. 6 as council selected the low bidder, Beatty Construction. The price was $12,000 over budget, but the city was able to transfer funds from the TDK bridge repair project which came in under budget.
The handrails have fallen into disrepair to the point where they must be replaced, according to city staff.
