Several hundred members of Fayetteville First Baptist Church spent the Sunday before Labor Day laboring in their community as part of the church’s second-annual Serve Y’all Ministry Day.
After gathering for an early breakfast and joint praise and worship celebration, church members broke up into dozens of small ministry teams and spread out across Fayette County to work in one of nine specific areas of ministry: Clean-up of roads, parks and schools; car window washing; nursing homes; washing cars for police and fire agencies; yard crews; serving breakfast and lunch; or transportation.
The Rev. Jim Thomas, senior pastor, said the Serve Y’all Ministry Day was simply a way for First Baptist to demonstrate Christ’s love to the community in a very real way.
“We believe that faith extends beyond the four walls of our church,” Thomas said. “We want to put our faith in action by serving others through the love of Christ in our community.”
