Garwoods honored at stadium rededication

Garwood Stadium served many local southwest Atlanta high school football teams throughout the 1960s, 70s and 80s. it was named after Coach Robert Garwood who served as the head football coach at Palmetto High School from 1970-1977. Coach Garwood passed away in 1977 at the age of 44; he was a great leader in his school, church, and community. He was a highly respected man in the coaching profession, a man that lived out what he taught others.

Landmark Christian School now owns Garwood Stadium, and it is a part of the school’s athletic complex located at 299 Grant Street in Fairburn. It serves the school’s youth, middle school, and high school football teams as a practice facility.
It also serves the cross country program as a practice facility, and serves middle school and high school soccer teams as a practice and game facility.

Landmark has done some major improvements and renovations to the stadium in the past few years making it a beautiful facility.
It is a facility that the Garwood family and everyone associated with Landmark, Fairburn, and Palmetto can be proud of calling their own.
 During Landmark’s Blue/Gold football scrimmage on August 10, Landmark rededicated Garwood Stadium and honorored Mrs. Mary Ann Garwood, widow of Coach Garwood, and her family. Landmark also honored Coach Garwood’s former players, dignitaries from the city of Fairburn and Palmetto, and the Fairburn utility department.
