Linda Margaret Thurlby, 72, of Tyrone, Ga., passed away April 28, 2013 (27 years to the day of her mother’s passing).
Born in Middletown, N.Y. to the late James and Loretta Hoffman, she grew up in Beechhurst, N.Y. After raising 2 children and a husband she graduated from New York University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Writing. After a distinguished career in advertising and real estate sales, she moved to Tyrone in 1999 where she quickly became an award winning account executive for the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Her real passion, however, was her writing. She has published numerous short stories, travel articles, magazine features, biographical studies and, perhaps her favorite, food and restaurant reviews. After retiring, she went on to do fund raising and marketing for local charitable organizations like the Real Life Center, Newnan Coweta Humane Society, and Global Partners in Life.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Bruce W. Thurlby, two daughters, Kelly Ann Phelan and Bridget Mary Stone and son-in-law, Ron Stone. She is also survived by her sister, Dianne Hulbert; grandchildren, Gunner and Megan Stone and many treasured nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and nieces and her great grand-nephew.
A celebration of Linda’s life will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2013 at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home in Peachtree City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Real Life Center, or Tender Heart Rescue (the people who rescued Linda’s beloved dog, Miss Honey Petunia) via the East Coweta Veterinary Hospital at 770.304.2600.
