State Representatives Virgil Fludd, D-Tyrone and Ronnie Mabra, D-Fayetteville, will host a town hall meeting at Tyrone Elementary School Saturday, March 23.
The two will present updates from the Georgia General Assembly, which is winding down rapidly to its final days of the 2013 session. One hot topic is expected to be ethics reform as the two halves of the legislature have to meet in the middle if they plan to pass any restrictions or an outright ban on most gifts, meals and tickets from lobbyists.
Another potential hot topic is the dwindling of state funding for traditional public schools, which has hit the Fayette County school system along with their public school counterparts throughout the state.
Tyrone Elementary is one of four Fayette schools that will be closed for the 2013-2014 school year in a bid to stave off an anticipated $15 million decline in the school system’s budget.
The meeting will run from 10 a.m. to noon at the school, which is located at 876 Senoia Road.
