A Feb. 24 incident in the parking lot at Balmoral Village Apartments on South Peachtree Parkway in Peachtree City landed a Fayetteville man in jail on charges of aggravated assault after he allegedly choked his wife and attempted to hit her in the head with a tire jack.

Lonnie L. Green, 25, of Cobblestone Boulevard in Fayetteville, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of battery, according to arrest reports.

The incident occurred at approximately 7 p.m. when officers were called to Balmoral Apartments for a domestic disturbance in which a man and woman were reportedly fighting in the parking lot. Green’s wife is a resident of at the apartment complex, according to reports. Officers at the scene interviewed several witnesses to the incident, reports said.

One of the witnesses told officers he had driven Green to the residence to meet with his wife.

Officers were told by Green’s wife the incident began when she confronted him after arriving at the residence. At one point Green reportedly picked up a metal tire jack and swung it at her head. Reports said the woman ducked and stumbled backward. Green at that point pushed her against a vehicle, grabbed her by the throat and began to choke her, reports said.

Another witness, a friend of the wife, said the incident between the two began after they argued about their car. Once the incident turned physical, the witness said she attempted to separate the two. It was at that time when a man exited the victim’s apartment and also attempted to break up the altercation, said reports.

The initial report to 911 saying that Green was in possession of a gun proved to be incorrect, according to reports.

Green was charged and taken into custody at the scene.
