A new jobs mentoring program at McIntosh High will help students learn more about careers that interest them and what it takes to succeed in those fields.
Chief Connections, the brainchild of Assistant Principal Dr. Marcus Broadhead, will team interested students with a community professional to serve as a career mentor in addition to an academic coach and student volunteer from the school’s Ambassador Program. Students will receive academic and social support while exploring possible job opportunities through a team of mentors at the school.
“As a youth, it meant a lot to me that others invested their time and made a way for me to recognize my path,” said Broadhead.
Mentoring team members, comprised of teachers, administrators, school staff, students and business professionals, are being screened and trained through the Fayette County Public School System’s Friends Mentoring Program. The program regularly trains adult volunteers to work as mentors at all school levels, and through a sister program called HiTeens, local high school students are utilized as mentors to elementary students in the After School Program.
