Nearly every local team is taking the court this week in the first round of the GHSA state volleyball playoffs.

First-round matches are either Oct. 11 or 12, depending upon the classification. All second-round matches are Oct. 17, and the higher seed hosts each of the first two rounds.

In AAAAAAA, East Coweta is the second seed from Area 2 and will host Lassiter. Northgate is the top seed from Area 5 in AAAAAA and will host Centennial.

The four seed from Area 3 in AAAAA are all from Fayette. McIntosh is the top seed and will host Miller Grove, while Starr’s Mill got the second seed and will host Johnson-Gainesville.

Whitewater is the third seed and will travel to Statesboro. Fayette County is seeded fourth and will play at South Effingham.

Our Lady of Mercy is the top seed from Area 2 in A and will host Darlington. Landmark is the second seed and will host Gordon Lee.

Once teams reach the third round in each bracket, the eight teams that remain will be seeded and the higher seeds in those groupings will host third- and fourth-round matches.

The championships in all classifications are Oct. 28 at Marietta High School.
