The City of Fayetteville has made the difficult decision to cancel Christmas parade and tree lighting activities this afternoon and evening. Worsening weather overnight and the rain and storm forecast at parade time were deciding factors in the decision, Brian Wismer, Main Street Fayetteville director, said this morning.
“We’ve never canceled a Christmas parade,” Wismer said. It’s a new experience for the city.
It’s not possible to reschedule this year but in the future, Wismer says the city will have a rain date as part of the plan.
More than 50 entries were signed up for today’s parade and an evening of carols and tree lighting ceremonies were planned. Wismer expects to light the tree sometime this week but he was unsure Saturday morning whether any special activities will take place with that event.
