Fayette Commission to consider residential rezoning, other issues

The March 28 meeting of the Fayette County Commission will include a residential rezoning proposal along Dogwood Trail and a discussion of Fayetteville’s plans for the new city center area.

Commissioners will hear a proposal to rezone 29 acres fronting Dogwood Trail from A-R (agricultural residential) to R-50 for a 16-lot subdivision.

Project representatives are requesting one-acre lots with homes in the range of $400,000. The property is situated on the south side of Dogwood Trail near Tyrone Road.

County planning staff recommended approval, adding that the proposal conforms to the county Comprehensive Plan.

Also at the meeting, commissioners are expected to discuss Fayetteville’s plans for a new city center and possible impacts or enhancements to Heritage Parkway and the Fayette County Library parking lot and greenspace.

Fayetteville Downtown Development Director Brian Wismer will make the presentation.

Commissioners will also consider Pinewood Forest’s request for an agreement that would allow for private construction, and future maintenance, of a sidewalk and landscaping within the Hood Road right-of-way.

In order to provide a loop sidewalk/path system around the Pinewood Forest development, Pinewood Forest LLC has approached Fayette County about constructing, and maintaining, a portion of the sidewalk within county right-of-way. County staff noted that the topography and existing landscaping prohibits the path being entirely on private property.
