The Newnan Youth Council (NYC) has raised over $500 by collecting coins within the community to donate directly to Angel’s House. The NYC presented the donation February 27.
“The Newnan Youth Council provides local high school students with a great opportunity to be involved in the community and its government. The members have already met United States Senator Johnny Isakson, the Mayor and City Council members, as well as several local prominent business leaders.
Through these tough economic times, we are supporting those in need through various fundraising efforts, canned food drives, as well as sponsoring a needy family during the holiday season. The most recent opportunity to aid the community was through a local charity, Angel’s House. The Youth Council members sponsored an event called “Change for Angels”, in which they raised over $500 that will go directly to Angel’s House,” said Peyton Shelnutt, the Newnan Youth Council Chair.
“We have two major upcoming events that include a visit to the Georgia State Capitol where the Newnan Youth Council will meet with local state representatives and Governor Purdue. Plans are also underway for a “Teen Town Hall” meeting to learn what’s on the minds of Newnan teens. I would also like to encourage any local teenager interested in serving their community to find out more information about the Newnan Youth Council program,” Shelnutt said.
Located at 1401 Holbrook Road, Angel’s House is a nonprofit corporation organized to provide a safe and secure environment for children so that emotional healing and development of personal and family living skills may occur; to maximize the potential of the children who are experiencing social and emotional difficulties; and to provide a safe home designed to meet the special needs of the children in our community.
