Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies are searching for two white males who were in cahoots to steal cash from a local business Thursday afternoon.

One of the two men lured an employee away from a cash register to distract him while the other forced open the register to take cash, deputies said.

A second employee quickly discovered the theft and confronted the suspect at the nearby Publix Supermarket and was able to retrieve some money before the suspects fled in a light bronze or tan 1990 to 1993 Honda Accord with a spare tire on the right rear and a bungee cord or strap holding on a portion of the front bumper, officials said.

One of the suspects was described as a white male with medium to heavy build in his mid to late 40s with salt and pepper hair. The other was described as a white maile with a slender build with salt and pepper hair in his mid to late 40s wearing a pink polo style shirt and light colored pants.

One of the suspects was captured on the video surveillance system at the grocery store, and deputies are trying to identify the men and the vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 770-461-6353 or the criminal investigations division at 770-716-4750.
