A passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for no insurance or registration found himself facing a variety of criminal charges as a result of the traffic stop.
According to reports, the driver was able to produce the necessary documentation once being pulled over the evening of April 16 near Hwy. 279 and Hwy. 85. But the deputy smelled marijuana, and it was revealed that the passenger had marijuana on his person.
The suspect tried twice to give a false name to law enforcement, and he also produced improper documentation that led to a more serious charge. He also had probation violation warrants out of Riverdale and was wanted for contempt of court in Clayton County.
Anthony Moore, 35, of McDonough faces a felony count of false statements and writings along with two counts of giving a false name to an officer and one count each of possession/use of drug-related objects and marijuana possession.
Elsewhere in the county, officers on patrol April 12 ran a tag on a vehicle traveling near Hwy. 85 and Bradley Drive and it triggered an alert for being reported stolen. It was determined that it was a rental car that had not been returned to the rental facility. Jose Martinez-Reyes, 24, of Riverdale was arrested and charged with a felony count of theft by receiving stolen property.
A car that had been reported stolen was pulled over April 13 near Hwy. 85 and Hwy. 92 and officers soon found that the driver had made quite an effort to conceal that fact. The investigation revealed that the tag was actually registered to another vehicle and the driver did not have a proper license, although he did have marijuana.
Rickey McKinney, 18, of Lithonia was charged with two counts of theft by receiving stolen property, one of which was a felony, according to the Fayette County Jail log. Other charges included license plate used to conceal ID, no insurance, driving with a suspended license and marijuana possession.
A vehicle with no tag was the reason for an April 17 traffic stop near Hwy. 85 and Kenwood Road. Deputies smelled marijuana and a search revealed that the driver had a felony amount of oxycodone hydrochlorine. De’Ja Armbrester, 25, of Riverdale was arrested on those charges.
