A late-night routine traffic stop last week resulted in three men being arrested for their creative homemade design of firearms.
According to reports, a car was pulled over March 19 shortly before midnight in the area of Hwy. 92 and McBride Road. The initial reason for the stop was a tag light violation as well as a failure to dim lights.
Three weapons were found in the car. One was stolen and two had been altered — made into sawed-off shotguns or “essentially turned into automatics,” as a Fayette County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson put it.
Such a conversion brings a felony charge of possession of a dangerous weapon. On top of that, the fact that one gun was stolen carries a felony charge of theft by receiving stolen property.
All three occupants of the car — Kamauri Davis, 20, of Fairburn; Kanell Sprattling, 21, of Union City; and Jahmai Williams, 19 of Douglasville — received multiple felony counts on those charges as well as misdemeanor marijuana possession. Davis, the driver, was cited for the traffic violations. Williams was charged with giving a false name to an officer.
Elsewhere in Fayette County, another routine traffic stop resulted in a felony drug arrest. A car was seen shortly after midnight March 22 driving on the wrong side of the road and pulled over near Sunset Blvd. The suspect was found to be above the .08 legal limit and in possession of THC gummies.
Jeremy Collins, 42, of Mableton was arrested and charged with felony drug possession/sale/manufacture as well as driving under the influence and the traffic violations
