A Hampton couple spent some quality time together in the Fayette County Jail over the weekend after both were charged with felony drug possession and assorted misdemeanors.
According to reports, a traffic stop was made in the wee hours of March 17 at Hwy. 54 and Wilbanks Road by Fayetteville police because of multiple issues, including an extended response to a light turning green, several failures to signal while changing lanes, swerving and crossing the center line a number of times.
The driver was determined to be driving under the influence and placed under arrest, at which time he was searched and a bag of THC gummies was found on his person. Because of that and the smell of marijuana, officers searched the vehicle.
During the search, the female suspect was standing outside the vehicle and officers saw her throw a bag onto the ground. Inside the bag were seven MDMA (Ecstasy) pills. That led to her arrest.
Jeremy Johnson, 36, of Hampton was charged with felony drug possession, marijuana possession, DUI of alcohol, driving on the wrong side of the road, and turning movement/signals required, according to the jail log.
Destiny Johnson, 35, of Hampton was charged with felony drug possession and marijuana possession.
The police report indicated that the suspects are husband and wife. A third person was in the car but was not charged.
