Last week’s police activity in Fayetteville included two separate incidents in which suspects made the decision to fight with officers but still wound up in jail.
According to a department spokesperson, a traffic stop was made shortly after 2 p.m. Feb. 21 in front of the Goodwill store on Hwy. 85. The occupants of the vehicle were suspects in a shoplifting incident at the nearby Lowe’s store.
Brandon Grier, 37, of Douglasville was one of the suspects. He began to fight with police after being handcuffed, walking around the vehicle and attempting to get the handcuffs in front of the body. A scuffle on the ground ensued, during which an officer was injured.
That earned Grier a felony charge of obstruction of an officer. He also had in his possession a glass pipe typically used with cocaine, so he is also charged with possession/use of drug-related objects as well as theft by shoplifting.
Terrance Holmes, 56, was the other suspect and was listed as homeless on the report as no address could be determined for him. He also failed to comply with orders given by police, attempting to exit the vehicle on the opposite side of where he was instructed to get out. The report indicated that Holmes tried to exit the car where the altercation with Grier was in progress, which added to the struggle the officers faced.
At the end of the melee, Holmes was charged with multiple felony shoplifting counts along with felony obstruction and possession of tools for commission of a crime, also a felony. Lesser charges include giving a false name to an officer and possession/use of drug-related objects.
A couple of hours later and just a mile or two away, another suspect in an unrelated case chose to give police a hard time in the course of her arrest. The report stated that the incident occurred at the Hardee’s restaurant on Glynn Street, where the suspect entered into a heated dispute with employees at the drive-thru window while she was sitting in her car.
The report does not indicate the reason for the suspect’s displeasure with the service at the restaurant. What the report does say, however, is that the suspect brandished a firearm taken from her glove compartment and pointed it in the direction of the drive-thru window. All of this was witnessed by a small child in the back seat of the suspect’s car.
Police arrived on the scene while the suspect was still on the property, and she fought with officers during the course of her arrest.
Asheka Wheeler-Tidwell, 46, of Riverdale faces two felony counts of terroristic threats and acts, two felony counts of aggravated assault, and lesser charges of obstruction of an officer and cruelty to children in the third degree.
