An angry machete-wielding man was arrested by local law enforcement during a domestic dispute over the weekend.
Deputies were dispatched the evening of Jan. 20 to a residence on Imperial Way in Fayetteville, according to a spokesman for the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office who referred to it as a “family violence-type situation.”
The victim was the mother of the suspect, who was described as being very upset and had destroyed items inside the home. He was carrying around a machete and making threats, according to the report, and he also had knives in his pockets.
No one was injured, but the mother felt threatened enough to call 911, the FCSO spokesman stated.
When deputies arrived at the front door, they heard the garage door opening and saw the suspect coming out. He was “very irate and agitated,” the report indicated, but did not attempt to run away and was apprehended without incident.
Michael Jones, 39, of Fayetteville was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm/knife in commission of a crime, false imprisonment, and criminal trespass. The first three are felonies.
Elsewhere in Fayette County, a traffic stop the afternoon of Jan. 20 revealed that the driver was wanted on an out-of-state warrant. After pulling over a vehicle in the area of Hwy. 279 and Kenwood Road, deputies learned that an arrest warrant had been issued in Nashville, Tenn., on a probation violation.
When contacted, officials with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department informed Fayette County officers that they wanted the suspect back and put a hold on him. Upon his arrival at Fayette County Jail, he had hidden contraband on his person which led to an additional local charge.
Jerome Stone, 31, of Fairburn was charged with a felony count of crossing the guard-line with contraband as well as a lesser charge of marijuana possession.
