Two robbers are in custody after a weekend crime spree ended with their arrests.
According to reports, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded Aug. 20 to a call on Ga. Highway 138 in reference to an armed robbery involving a silver Kia Forte. The male victim was reportedly robbed at gunpoint by two male suspects who then fled the scene.
The man told deputies that he knew the two men who pointed a gun at him and took $400 in cash, after which he took a photo of the getaway car’s license plate and called 911.
After law enforcement authorities in the area were advised to be on the lookout for the suspects and their vehicle, deputies from the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office located the car at the home of the registered owner. Both suspects were detained and subsequently arrested. The vehicle was impounded as detectives and crime scene technicians arrived at the scene.
Brendan Hailey and Marcus Polite, both 19 and from Riverdale, were taken to Fayette County Jail. Both were charged with armed robbery and robbery by intimidation, both of which are felonies.
Elsewhere in Fayette County, yet another felony arrest was made possible simply because of excessive window tint. A traffic stop was made Aug. 16 for that reason, and the result was the arrest of Jayvion Collier, 17 of Fayetteville. He was charged with felony drug possession, theft by receiving stolen property and possession of a weapon in commission of a crime in addition to the window tint violation.
Improper equipment on a vehicle in an unrelated incident resulted in another felony drug arrest. An Aug. 17 traffic stop was made on Hwy. 279 and it was revealed that Vincent Hill, 37, of Riverdale was driving with a suspended license, another felony. He was also charged with marijuana possession.
A traffic stop at Helmer Road and Patriots Walk shortly before midnight Aug. 16 led to a number of charges against the driver and passenger of the same vehicle. Brian Tolbert, 42, of Atlanta was the driver and he was charged with DUI of alcohol and drugs, no insurance and open container. All of those are misdemeanors.
Ricky Wingfield, 52, of Atlanta was the passenger. He was ultimately charged with forgery in the second degree, controlled substances Schedule I, controlled substances Schedule IV, and drug possession/sale/manufacture — all felonies — according to the Fayette County Jail log. He also faces a lesser marijuana possession charge as well as possession/use of drug-related objects.
