The renovations at The Gathering Place senior citizens center were expected to be completed this past weekend, with Fayette Senior Services moving its equipment back in Monday (April 2), city officials said.
The facility has undergone about $60,000 in upgrades. The work has run the gamut from the cosmetic, with new paint both inside and out, to the mechanical. The heating, ventilation and cooling system has been upgraded, as has the flooring.
Community Services Director Jon Rorie said there might be a loose end or two to tie up after Monday, but nothing that would delay the facility re-opening just two weeks after the renovations began and the building was closed.
One of the last remaining items will be the new kitchen countertops, but other than that hiccup, the city has managed to pull off the renovations in a compressed timeframe while coordinating the work of several different contractors.
“Everything appears to be on schedule,” Rorie said Thursday afternoon.
Fayette Senior Services plans to have its first scheduled programs in the newly-renovated facility on Wednesday, Rorie noted.
The funds for the facility upgrade came from the city’s $3 million facility improvement bond that was approved earlier this year by the City Council. With this project virtually complete, there is no shortage of work to be done, as a host of recreation repairs and upgrades lay waiting, Rorie noted.
