When it comes to violent crimes and property crimes Fayetteville scores in the bottom — safest — one-third of Georgia cities with populations of 10,000-20,000, according to FBI figures.
Data compiled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for 2010, the most recent year available, showed Fayetteville ranked 26th of 37 similar-sized Georgia cities for the number of violent crimes and 31st in the number of property crimes.
Cities with populations of 10,000-20,000 showed a large range in the number of certain violent crimes reported during 2010. The largest number came in Union City, just a few miles north of Fayetteville and Tyrone. Union City had 347 violent crimes compared to Loganville where 13 violent crimes were reported during the same year.
Fayetteville for the period reported 39 violent crimes, ranking it at 26th of 37 cities of similar size. A breakdown of the 39 crimes showed 1 as murder or non-negligent manslaughter, 3 occasions of forcible rape, 13 robberies and 22 cases of aggravated assault.
Fayetteville during 2010 had 414 property crimes, placing the city at 31st of the 37 cities of similar size. A breakdown of those crimes showed 332 thefts, 58 burglaries and 24 thefts of a motor vehicle. There were no cases of arson during the reporting period.
A comparison of the number of property crimes in other cities showed College Park topping the list with 2,237 incidents compared to Richmond Hill with 188.
