Peachtree City newcomer Clint Holland defeated hometown candidate Phil Crane by 364 votes in the runoff election to fill the vacant Post 3 City Council seat later this month.
The retired engineer — a Peachtree City resident since 2020 — will be sworn in at the regular council meeting Dec. 15 and will immediately take his seat on the council dais.
He will be filling the vacancy created earlier this year when Gretchen Caola — involved in a controversy about speed bumps on the golf cart path near her home — left town, effectively removing herself from her elected post.
Crane, a chiropractor with his office in Peachtree City, grew up here and attended McIntosh High School. He ran for a council post first in November 2021, losing to Frank Destadio. He ran again in the special election to fill Caola’s post, which resulted in the Dec. 6 runoff won by Holland.
Holland will serve the remainder of Caola’s term, which ends in December 2025.
The runoff produced a 40.8% city voter turnout — 11,293 cast ballots out of 27,622 registered city voters. Of that number, 5,300 voted early and 5,965 voted on Dec. 6.
With 12 of 12 precincts reporting, Clint Holland received 5,808 votes (52%) and Phil Crane received 5,444 votes (48%). The results are due to be certified Dec. 9.
And now it’s time for the Huddleston Road merchants to take down the campaign signs.
Congrats to Clint Holland!! Thank you for serving.
Best of luck going forward…
Thank you, Phil and Clint for caring enough to run for office.
