A Milner woman faces charges after leaving her two young children in her vehicle at the Fayette Pavilion while she was inside a store for half an hour on March 15.

Valerie Christina Betsill, 29, was charged with two counts of child endangerment, two counts of minors left unattended and two counts of a child seat violation, according to Fayetteville Police Det. Mike Whitlow.

Whitlow said officers responded to a store at the Fayette Pavilion on March 15 after witnesses observed two young children in a locked car with the windows rolled up and the key in the ignition. The woman had been in the store for approximately 30 minutes, witnesses told officers.

Whitlow said Betsill had exited the store and was at her vehicle when officers arrived.

Also in Fayetteville, officers received a burglary call from a homeowner on Gingercake Court after she arrived home March 17 and identified three male juveniles from her neighborhood exiting her house.

The homeowner told officers she arrived home during the evening hours and saw three neighborhood boys running from her house. The woman entered her home and found a bedroom window open. She also found mud on the carpet and bed linens and window blinds broken, Whitlow said. The only item stolen was a baseball cap, said Whitlow.

Prior to officers responding to her call the woman confronted one of the juveniles, Whitlow said, adding that he admitted entering her home. The boy also made the admission to the officer at the scene, Whitlow said.

Whitlow said the three males were referred to juvenile authorities.
