Betty Jean grew up in Fitzgerald, a small country town in South Georgia, where she learned the importance of family and friends. She professed Christ as her savior at age 12 and later joined Arbor Baptist Church.

During this time she met her future husband Jimmy Brown. After high school, she took a big step of faith and moved to Asheville, North Carolina to pursue education in radiology. After completing her education, she worked as an x-ray technician.

She married Jimmy Brown on July 21, 1957, and they recently celebrated their 65th anniversary. She became the mother of Dennis and Kenneth and stayed home to care for them. Later, she worked at Fayette Elementary School as an office clerk for over 20 years.

She made many friends that she loved dearly. She helped Jimmy and the boys build the house they lived in for over 50 years. She never shied away from any task and cleared land, did carpentry work, roofed the house, completed a multitude of other tasks and lived in the basement while the upstairs was finished.

When she and Jimmy retired, they traveled in a small camper to all 48 states of the continental U.S.A. She loved her Lord and was a member of North Fayette Baptist Church. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Her influence will live on in the lives of those she touched. She is being missed greatly, but we will see her again.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at 4:00 PM in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home in Fayetteville with Reverend Kenneth Brown and Reverend Ethan Brown officiating. The family will welcome family and friends prior to the service from 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the funeral home.
