Four teenage males are facing charges after stealing a vehicle and entering others in a neighborhood off South Jeff Davis Drive in Fayetteville.
Avion A. Bentley, 17, of Fayetteville, and Rejon Q. Williams, 18, of Atlanta are facing charges of theft by taking motor vehicle, entering auto and obstruction, said Sheriff Barry Babb.
Also being charged in the cases are two males from Lithonia, ages 14 and 15, Babb said.
The activity leading to the arrests began on the evening of July 7 after Williams and the two juveniles arrived at Bentley’s home in the Jeff Davis Plantation subdivision off South Jeff Davis Drive, Babb said.
Later in the evening, the four left Bentley’s home and walked through the wooded area to a nearby Antebellum Way residence where they entered a truck and stole a 9mm handgun from the console, Babb said, noting that the passenger door was open and with no signs of forced entry.
Babb said the firearm was later recovered.
From there, the four went to a residence on nearby Cavalier Way at approximately 1:30 a.m., where they entered a Ford Ranger, removing the keys and cash, said Babb.
Babb said home video also showed them entering a 2016 GMC Yukon at the residence, stealing it after finding the keys inside and disabling the tracking device.
It turned out that the homeowners were up and reported the theft, with deputies quickly locating the vehicle driving northbound of South Jeff Davis Drive. The vehicle turned left onto Emerald Lake Drive, where it was abandoned, and with the four fleeing on foot, said Babb.
Deputies, along with a Fayetteville K-9 unit, did not locate the group after fleeing. However, a few hours later, at approximately 6:30 a.m., a deputy responded to a suspicious person call from a Dixon Circle resident. The residence is located on the other side of Emerald Lake from the Jeff Davis Plantation subdivision, Babb explained.
Described as a black male, wearing red shorts and no shirt, deputies determined that the man was Williams and confirmed his involvement. Williams was subsequently taken into custody, Babb said.
Bentley and the two juveniles were taken into custody by 11 a.m., said Babb.
One of the four later arrested told investigators they came to the house to “smoke weed and listen to music,” Babb said of the report.
