One man is in jail and two others are being sought in connection with multiple entering auto incidents reported on June 17 at residences off Ga. Highway 314 in north Fayette County.
On June 17 at approximately 1 a.m. an alert resident contacted the Fayette County 911 Center to report suspicious persons in the area of Longcreek Drive and Astaire Manor in the Legacy Hills subdivision off Hwy. 314, said Sheriff Barry Babb.
Three subjects were reportedly going from home-to-home checking for unlocked vehicles, which were then rummaged, Babb noted.
Deputies responded and attempted to locate three subjects that fled upon their arrival. One male, Shaheed Huff, 20, of Lithonia, was subsequently arrested and charged with obstruction and eight counts of entering auto, Babb said.
Babb said the two other males fled through the nearby Stillbrook Estates Subdivision toward Helmer Road and were able to avoid capture for the time being.
Deputies searching the area for a getaway vehicle located a stolen 2015 Honda CR-V parked on Stearman Road off Hwy. 314. The vehicle was reported stolen in DeKalb County, Babb said.
It was noted that neighbors in the areas where the three were running later found two handguns in their yards, though it was not immediately confirmed if the guns were stolen from the entered vehicles, Babb said.
