International Patriarch to Celebrate Local Congregation’s 30th Anniversary

In September 1996, following several home prayer meetings, Christ the King Church was launched in the chapel of Carmichael Funeral Home in Peachtree City, The congregation eventually purchased nearly twelve acres of land in Coweta County on Highway 34 and, in 2002, occupied their newly built sanctuary. A couple of years later, a Parish Life Center was added. The first rector of the church was Father David Epps who, at 45, had 25 years of prior ministerial and pastoral experience. Father Mark Johnson, also with prior experience in ordained ministry, was part of the original pastoral ministry team.

Over time, the church grew and several church members participated in global ministries, visiting Uganda, Kenya, the Philippines, South America, Mongolia, Ireland, and other nations around the world. The church also pioneered three sister congregations, two in Georgia and one in Illinois. Over the years a number of men were ordained to the diaconate and/or the priesthood, with five of them becoming priests at their own churches.

In 2007, Epps was selected as the bishop of the Diocese of the Mid-South and, while continuing to serve as rector (pastor) of the church, gave care to the church and ministers in Georgia and Tennessee. He retired from both positions in September 2025 and was succeeded in both offices by his son, Bishop Jason Epps, the first time such an event has occurred in the Charismatic Episcopal Church in North America.

The anniversary speaker and celebrant will be The Most Rev’d Charles William Jones, Patriarch of the International Communion of the Charismatic Episcopal Church. Jones, who was consecrated as a bishop in 1997, succeeding The Most Rev’d Craig Bates of New York, who served from 2008 – 2024. Jones, who resides in Selma, AL is the Bishop of the Gulf States and the Carolinas, the Archbishop of the Southeast Archdiocese consisting of churches from Texas to North Carolina and is the overseer of the global church which has churches in Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America (including Cuba).

He is the President and Founder of Aslan Roars, a ministry for igniting sustainable revival on personal, corporate, and geographic levels. Jones graduated from University of Alabama Birmingham in 1973 with a BA in Nuclear Medicine and worked in that field for five years. He graduated in 1984 with a BA in Bible and Theology from Southeast Bible College (SEBC) and has his Master of Divinity degree from St. Michael’s Seminary, CA. He was ordained a minister in 1983 and became the pastor of the Christ the King Church in Selma in 1985 where he continues to serve.
