Newnan Theatre Company Presents Final Weekend of Original Adaptation of The Secret Garden

NEWNAN, GA — September 14, 2026 — Newnan Theatre Company (NTC) invites audiences to experience the final weekend of its original adaptation of The Secret Garden, based on the beloved classic novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

The production enters its final weekend of performances beginning Thursday, September 17.  NTC’s original adaptation brings Burnett’s timeless story of loss, friendship, healing, and transformation to the stage through an inventive theatrical approach that blends storytelling, music, lighting, and a distinctive scenic design.

For Director Craig Jones, the production has been a particularly meaningful creative journey.

“Out of the small number of classic literature adaptations I’ve worked on, The Secret Garden has probably been the most difficult. Not because of the story or how to adapt it, but (like a number of the characters in the story), using grief of the loss of loved ones and using what they did and taught to make one’s life happy and meaningful. For this production, I dedicate to the people in my life who made a change in me. Especially my nieces and nephew… And the nephew, who is now parted from me.”

That personal connection to the themes of grief, memory, and renewal has helped shape a production that invites audiences to look beyond the garden itself and consider the ways people and memories can continue to influence our lives. Audiences have also responded enthusiastically to the production’s distinctive visual style and ensemble performances. One long-time NTC patron described the experience: “First, the set is just different than our ‘norm’ — it’s surprising and lovely. The lighting and ‘tricks’ are very natural and cool!!! The acting and flow (with the background music) make it feel like you’re watching a movie! Just a lovely cast — very diverse characterizations — and the set was equally as lovely!”

With only a handful of performances remaining, audiences have one final opportunity to discover NTC’s unique interpretation of this enduring literary classic.
